SKY SCOPE 2.0 AT THE 149TH OPEN WITH SKY SPORTS

IN FULL SWING POWERED BY POLYMOTION STAGE

LEVELLING-UP LIVE SPORT BROADCAST WITH SKY SCOPE 2.0.

The award-winning Sky Scope technology was back in action for Sky Sports’ coverage of golf’s oldest tournament, The Open. Working with our partners Dimension Studio, The Polymotion Stage truck made its debut at this year’s tournament and was driven to the course to capture the volumetric assets used in the live Sky broadcast.

THE INNOVATIVE AWARD-WINNING TOOL IS BACK

Using cutting-edge volumetric capture technology, Sky Scope 2.0 enabled Sky Sports team to ramp up its on-screen performance analysis of golf’s biggest superstars.

Launched in 2019 at the 148th Open Championship, Sky Scope changed the way fans and players view the golf swing. Highly realistic, volumetrically captured avatars of golf’s top players allowed the Sky Sports broadcast team to track, pause and analyse each golfer’s swing from every angle.

BRINGING THE TECHNOLOGY TO THE TALENT

This year our award-winning Polymotion Truck was parked directly on the practice range, allowing the players to be captured in a matter of minutes as they prepared for the tournament. Within 48 hours the avatars were in use live on-air – complete with layered visuals showing the swing path of each player on-screen.

THE WINNING SWING

By capturing the swing of The Open champion Collin Morikawa, the Sky Sports team were able to visualise and pinpoint – live on-screen – exactly what gave him his winning edge.

A TRIPLE AWARD WINNING, INNOVATIVE GAME CHANGER

In 2020 Polymotion Stage won 3 prestigious Industry awards for the work that was done on the Sky Scope project, alongside our partner Dimension Studio, Sky and Sky Creative Agency.  We picked up the top prize for the Technical Innovation in a Sports Broadcast category in the Broadcast Tech Awards, SVG award for Innovation in A Sports Broadcast and Polymotion Stage won Product of the Year at the NABshow awards. The judges were incredibly impressed with the technical innovation of the product as well as the ability to create digital replicas of the players at the 148th Open Golf Championship, which gave the Sky Sports team the ability to track, pause and analyze every aspect of the golfers swing!
