Advanced Studio Integration
The deal with Sky Italia was followed by a successful deployment that further demonstrated the quality of service and results that can be delivered when well organised teams work together closely to achieve the desired goal of the customer.
The integration of MRMC’s AJS-2 Advanced Jib System into Sky Italia’s studio operations represents a step forward in studio content capture, providing a compact, automated jib solution that helps to streamline the broadcaster’s workflow.
Sky Italia already had several robotic solutions in their studios, with Vinten free-roaming pedestals and the integration of the AJS-2 Advanced Jib System will help operations improve storytelling.
Working with Italian partner Blutek to find the perfect solution, the AJS-2 proved to be ideal thanks to its compact design, added mobility, and ability to support the proposed VR workflow.
Notable features of the AJS-2 include its small footprint and quiet operation, which impressed Sky Italia. The system is so compact and efficient that only one person is needed to relocate it. The MRMC team were also able to adapt the AJS-2 to support the customer’s workflow requirements, pairing it with an MRMC X-Head to support a full-sized broadcast camera. These adjustments enable smooth and fluid automated content capture with a higher payload.
The jib is easily controlled via a dual joystick control panel over IP. The ability to remotely control the jib has enabled the team to centralise control from their main media centre. The resulting setup introduces new efficiencies with the use and operation of the robot, while the accompanying software facilitates the creation of presets and multiple paths that can be easily recalled. The setup also includes an MRMC server used to ingest the studio video feeds routed to monitors for reference checks, ensuring seamless quality control. There is also the potential to integrate the system with Mozart automation for triggering events.
Training From MRMC
The efficiency of the one-day training session led by MRMC Broadcast Engineer Rob Keith was instrumental in empowering the Sky Italia team to quickly become proficient with the new equipment. This emphasis on knowledge transfer and hands-on support underscores MRMC’s commitment to enabling its customers to get the most out of their investments.
