Capturing Every Angle at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships
This year, Nikon Ambassador Joel Marklund explores new creative possibilities by capturing unique images with the Nikon Z9, Nikon NX Field, and MRMC SR-1 Robotic Head at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships in Stockholm, Sweden.
Joel Marklund leads the Stockholm-based agency Bildbyrån, which covers regional and global major sports events, producing high-quality photos and videos, and is also a pioneer in imaging technology.
By mounting the SR-1 Robotic Head on a truss, Joel showcases how creating and executing remote and robotics opportunities is possible with a very small team or even by oneself. The SR-1 also enables camera operators to access locations that would otherwise be inaccessible by hand, allowing them to capture every angle with ease.
Take a closer look at some captures and behind-the-scenes below!
Aside from regular remotes like behind goal and netcam we utilized two overhead mounted Nikon Z9 cameras with the new 28-135/4 powerzoom lens (so that we could zoom in and out for different images depending on the scenario we wanted to capture) as well as two cameras on a truss hanging beneath the jumbotron. On that we had one camera with a 8-15mm fisheye but also a Nikon Z9 with a 24-120/4 lens on a Nikon/MRMC robotic head. These four overhead cameras were all controlled via NX Field and a game controller.
