PROJECT OVERVIEW
Thai-based rental house Brandlink recently set out to create a visually stunning high-speed action choreography titled Shugyȯ using motion control. Their goal was to highlight the impressive capabilities of motion control technology in filming intricate, fast-paced action sequences in a clear and fluid manner. The project required a specialised solution that could achieve the complex, high-speed movements required with unparalleled precision—something only the Bolt could deliver.
Motion control is truly capable of enhancing action sequences, movies, and commercials, achieving exceptional results with the right preparation, team, and timing. It’s incredibly efficient and precise. If the planning is thorough and you have the right people involved, everything can be executed effectively.

THE CHALLENGE
The production faced a tight timeline, with only three days allocated to complete the shoot. This included capturing a series of intricate action sequences that demanded highly coordinated and precise camera movements to effectively portray the stunts. Ensuring each shot was perfectly in focus and timed accurately was critical. Adding to the challenge was the limited pre-production time; the director and stunt coordinator had only conceptualised the camera movements a few days prior, requiring the team to adapt quickly and create complex motion control manoeuvres on the fly.
The Solution
The Bolt proved ideal for capturing the high-speed, dynamic movements envisioned by director Niccolo De La Fére and stunt coordinator Jay J Jakkrit. Its ability to maintain perfect focus while moving at incredible speeds allowed for razor-sharp imagery, even with an extremely shallow depth of field. Traversing over 9 metres of track, the Bolt delivered the wide, sweeping shots necessary to keep pace with the fast-moving action, fully meeting the project’s demanding requirements.
With limited pre-production time, the team needed to adjust camera movements in real-time. The intuitive features of Flair, such as keyframe preview and pass-speed graphing, were crucial. These tools allowed Bolt Operator Michael deAnthony to fine-tune movements quickly and efficiently, enabling the team to meet tight deadlines.
The project also underscored the importance of a well-coordinated team. Michael worked closely with a skilled grip team, whose role in setting up and adjusting the rig was vital for seamless transitions between shots, despite the constraints and complexity of the sequences.
In the end, Brandlink not only met the technical demands of the project but also showcased the Bolt’s ability to produce high-speed action scenes that are both fluid and visually spectacular, resulting in a stunning short film that exemplifies the potential of advanced motion control.
