Company Overview & Project Objectives

Ardh Alsama, also known as SkyEarth, is a media company based in Iraq that recently launched a high-end television studio designed to push the boundaries of broadcast production. With a vision to integrate augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) into their content creation, the company partnered with systems integrator Mawja Tech and MRMC Broadcast to bring this vision to life.

The primary goal for Ardh Alsama was to establish a studio environment capable of delivering precise, repeatable camera movements essential for AR and VR workflows. The studio required robust, flexible and highly accurate camera systems that could support virtual production with real-time tracking, allowing for seamless integration of digital environments and live-action footage. The solution also needed to be track-based and allow lift motion throughout the studio, consisting of multiple sets.

The Solution: MRMC Broadcast

To meet these demands, Ardh Alsama installed our TRH Track Robotic Head on a curved broadcast rail built into the floor and spanning over 23 meters in a newly constructed studio building, purpose-built to accommodate advanced broadcast technologies. Paired with the TRH is the PTA-2 broadcast camera platform for a Panasonic AK-HC3900 camera with Fujinon UA14x4.5BERD lens, a teleprompter and a talent monitor. This setup works in tandem with the Brainstorm Infinity Set, a powerful virtual graphics system, enabling dynamic and immersive virtual productions.

Creating shots for VR on a curved track presents a unique technical challenge, as it required precise synchronisation between the camera motion and virtual scene rendering. The TRH Track Robotic Head is configured to provide accurate FreeD data when navigating on the curve, ensuring seamless integration with the virtual workflow while offering smooth, repeatable motion.

One standout part of the MRMC solution is the RoboKam Software, which allows operators to switch between multiple camera presets effortlessly, thereby enhancing workflow efficiency. RoboKam integrates seamlessly with MRMC’s TRH Track Robotic Head system to deliver a highly advanced, automated camera motion solution ideal for broadcast and virtual production. Together, they enable synchronised multi-axis camera moves that can be previsualised, automated, and stored as presets. This combination supports real-time tracking protocols, such as FreeD, making it ideal for virtual studio applications. It also allows recording and recalling complex movements which can’t be performed manually or with a joystick alone.

Why Ardh Alsama Chose MRMC and Mawja Tech

This project marked Ardh Alsama’s first step into integrating robotic rail camera systems at a broadcast studio space. The client chose MRMC Broadcast’s robotics without considering competitors, confident in the brand’s reputation for precision and reliability. Mawja’s role as systems integrator was pivotal, providing not only technical implementation but also strategic guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

The MRMC system has significantly enhanced the studio’s production capabilities. The TRH Track Robotic Head System seamlessly provides precise, repeatable camera movements, which was critical in choosing the right solution for synchronising with the advanced AR/VR elements. The complex set-up and shape of the track meant we required a system with the ability to track and move cameras at specific times. This solution has streamlined the workflow, reduced manual intervention and increased production efficiency.
