A Streamlined Set-Up Using X-Y Robotic Tracking

Traditional camera tracking systems add complexity and often has ongoing costs. Using X-Y tracking is a cost-effective alternative and has been built in to our product range, including the TRH-1 Track Robotic Head.

A Cost-Effective Solution

One of our key customers was looking to build a new marquee studio. When selecting MRMC robotics, they wanted a solution where they could use our SLH lift column with PTA-1 robotic head and move these between shots, during advert breaks, or for different shows, and then re-sync the robot with the virtual graphic system quickly and easily.

This could be achieved using a track or camera tracking system like Ncam, Stype or Startracker. For many workflows, one of these additional tracking solutions allows for faster and more accurate data than the built-in encoders of your robotics will give you. For example, when using camera shutter matching with the refresh rate of LED volumes, or for set extension as part of an XR project.

However, this all adds complexity and often has ongoing costs, which for a customer, looking to fund the studio on a CapEx model, was unacceptable.

An X-Y tracking solution offers a very cost-effective way of having simple robotic tracking and movement within a studio without having a complex third-party tracker and the additional costs that this entails. Working with strategically placed, discreet targets inside the studio area, users can quickly and easily move any of the robots and re-sync the head to the graphic system using the positional tracking provided by the head.

Initial setup is a couple of hours, but the process of moving from location to location takes seconds, as does the syncing. Crucially the training to bring the operators up to speed is also short, as the design is intuitive and quickly learned.

About the TRH-1, Including X-Y Tracking

The TRH-1 is the ideal solution for track-based robotics. It can take any of our robotic heads and when paired with the PTA-2 can take a mid-payload studio camera and teleprompter. The TRH-1 is dual-stage lift system and is also available as in a ceiling track version.

Like the rest of our broadcast robotic rails, heads, and arms, the TRH-1 is fully encoded, using real-time positional data to integrate with your graphics systems. It also features X-Y tracking capability to seamlessly sync back to your graphics systems if moved around the studio when off-air.
