The RED Camera used on Mark Roberts Motion Control rigs

The RED Camera used on Mark Roberts Motion Control rigs

With the first RED cameras shipping at the end of 2007, we are now starting to see them being used in conjunction with precision motion control.

Dennis Henry, owner of MC2 used a RED camera on his Cyclops motion control rig and had the following to say, “The shoot was a Nip Tuck sponsorship for FX Channel. The shoot involved macro abstract to reveal different medical environments. The moves were pretty fast and shot in real time without any camera shake.

“The RED camera worked very well. It’s much more compact than standard HD cameras and has a really solid mounting plate like a 435. We shot at 4k res onto 8gb cards which were downloaded onto a MAC running RedCine software for grading and final output to digi tape.”

Meanwhile The VFX Co. recently also did a shoot with a RED camera on their Milo. The RED camera was supplied courtesy of Ross Media who will be at the Mark Roberts booth at the BSC Show.

Exhibitions, Expos & Conventions – BSC, Cinegear, BIR-TV, IBC

Mark Roberts Motion Control have exhibited newly developed equipment at a number of shows recently and there are some more major exhibitions in the coming weeks. First this year was the British Society of Cinematographers exhibition which was the first public outing for the new Modula’ Rig track and bearing rails. Then came Cinegear, which saw the Modula’ Rig track and bearing rails enjoying the Los Angeles sunshine and wowing the crowds with its speed and precision. With track speeds in excess of 10 feet (3 meters) per second and superb acceleration

This month MRMC will be exhibiting at BIR-TV in Beijing. If you plan on being there then please let us know as soon as possible. On the stand will be Ulti-heads, track and various controls, including our Flair motion control software.

And finally next month will be the annual IBC convention in Amsterdam. Remember to register online in advance at the IBC website to get FREE access to the exhibition, as well as a FREE bus/tram pass and avoiding the queues. YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE THE 20th OF AUGUST TO GET FREE ENTRY!!  http://www.ibc.org Don’t delay, do it now.

The plans for our IBC stand this year include the presentation of our new Talos Rig as well as the Modula’ Rig and its various options. BSC Show Success

BSC Show Success

The new Ulti-head track system and 360 degree roll shown at the British Society of Cinematographers show last month proved very popular. Working with industry standard rails and using MRMC racking or toothed belt (on request), the system provides an invaluable additional axis of motion to the Ulti-Head. Able to achieve speeds in excess of 3 metres per second, the compact track/dolly system allows the user to either fit a tripod directly on the platform or use extendable “bazookas” (columns) with the Ulti-head mounted on top. Currently being worked on and also due to be released soon are curved rail adaptions to allow the head to achieve full 360 degree circles, as well as vertical lifting columns.
