Busy Milo In Mexico

Ollin Studio (Mexico) recently finished a very complex and effects loaded music video for the band CAFÉ TACUBA. The song is the band's new single "Puntos Cardinales" from the 2004 Grammy Award winning Album "Cuatro Caminos". The critically acclaimed album also topped several album charts, including Rolling Stone, New York Times and Blender Magazine.

The video was shot at Churubusco Studios, Mexico, using the recently relocated MILO from Congo Films (Colombia) to Mexico, now with Ollin/Studio. The MILO was operated by Chris Toth from Camera Control (Los Angeles), technician Diego Cuellar (CongoFilm-Ollin/Studio), with previsualization and on-set supervision by Roberto Garcia from Ollin/Studio.

Motion Control was essential because the moves needed to be very precise and on time to match the music. Additionally the data from the Flair motion control software was needed to add the CGI elements.

Ollin/Studio also dealt with post-production, importing to Maya the data obtained from the shoot, in order to give a perfect match of animation and live action. Importing the move data, the Studio was able to complete the original set  (just two walls and grass floor) with the other two walls, ceiling and several animated elements floating around the musicians. Using a range of editing and compositing tools such as Inferno, Flame, Smoke and Media Illusion suites, the final elements of the video were finished.

Since relocating the Milo to Mexico, Ollin/Studio has done a variety of shoots using the motion control rig, including commercials requiring CGI matching, Innovision boroscope lenses, T-Rex snorkel lenses, crowd multiplication, and macro shooting.
